He mentions Surur al-Saltanah's remark about the photograph on his mantle shelf, that even though she has been joking but he wants to emphasize his loyalty to his wife and explains that the photograph was there just to fill the empty space and as soon as he learned that it upset Surur, he put it in his desk drawer and decided to hand it to Surur when he meets her.

‘Abd al-Husayn Mu‘azzaz al-Mulk (Taymurtash) writes to Surur al-Saltanah and mentions that are both orphaned (one, Mu‘azzaz al-Mulk, is a paternal orphan and the other, Surur al-Saltanah, is a maternal orphan) and lonely, but he is grateful to have Sururr. He writes that recently his statements and requests may have upset Surur and says that he is willing to die longing for her but does not want to upset her. On the second page, Mu‘azzaz al-Mulk expresses his happiness on receiving a letter from her, mentions that he had been miserable when Surur had stopped writing to him, and he is so happy now that he is writing this letter while in bed with a fever and will send it with one of the orderlies in the morning.
